RAW FISH STORAGE

2023-09-14
Raw fish should always be stored in the refrigerator, ideally at a temperature between 32 and 38 degrees Fahrenheit. Here are some tips for storing raw fish:

1. If you don't plan to use the fish within two days, it's best to freeze it. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or place it in a freezer bag to prevent freezer burn.

2. If you are storing the fish in the refrigerator, place it in a plastic bag and then put it in a bowl filled with ice. This will help keep it at the right temperature.

3. Always store raw fish on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator to prevent any juices from contaminating other foods.

4. If the fish starts to smell fishy or turns a different color, it's likely not safe to eat and should be discarded.

5. Always wash your hands, utensils, and cutting boards thoroughly after handling raw fish to prevent the spread of bacteria.

6. Don't store raw fish (or any raw seafood) with cooked or ready-to-eat foods to avoid cross-contamination.

7. If you're thawing frozen fish, do so in the refrigerator, not at room temperature. If you need to thaw it quickly, you can use the defrost function on your microwave or place it in a sealed plastic bag and submerge it in cold water. Change the water every 30 minutes until the fish is thawed.

Remember, the key to storing raw fish is to keep it as cold as possible without freezing it (unless you're not going to use it right away), and to use it as quickly as possible.
